Eminem, also known as Marshall Mathers, dropped a brand new record last Thursday night and it’s already gone to the number one spot on the Billboard 200 chart, a report from CNN claimed.
Music to be Murdered By, which followed his last album, Kamikaze, released in 2018, has received around 218 million streams already Nielsen Music reported.
Thus far, it’s Eminem’s 10th record to hit the coveted position on the chart, making Eminem one of the best selling artists of all time alongside Elvis Presley, Barbara Streisand, Bruce Springsteen, Jay-Z, and The Beatles.
It was reported earlier in 2020 that some of Marshall’s lyrics sparked controversy, including one song that references the Manchester Bombing at Ariana Grande’s concert. Furthermore, the controversial artist addressed the Las Vegas shooting as well.
Eminem later dropped a statement regarding some of the topics he discussed on the record. Paraphrasing what the rapper said on his IG account: murder and death have become so ubiquitous in American society that it seemed like a great time to “murder over beats.”

Near the ending of his IG comment, Eminem warned listeners and viewers that if they’re “squeamish,” it’s not for them. As most know, Eminem’s career in the last few years has been marred by a different form of controversy.
For instance, when he dropped his much-hated record, Revival, the artist was, for the first time in his career, criticized by the hip-hop community rather than just the mainstream media.
Approximately one year later, Eminem released another record, Kamikaze, which was more appreciated by fans than his prior effort. Moreover, Kamikaze‘s reception sparked responses from other rappers in the community, including Machine Gun Kelly, who dropped a diss-track shortly after called, “Rap Devil,” in reference to Mathers’ song, “Rap God.”
After several weeks, Eminem finally responded with his own diss-track called “Killshot.” Earlier this year, Nick Cannon, spontaneously and seemingly without reason, released a song called “The Invitation” in which he took shots at the Grammy Award winner on a number of different levels.

Eminem, who was likely keeping his ear to the ground in terms of fan reception, only responded half-heartedly on his Twitter account, suggesting that his track wasn’t even worth a real response.
